The Fluminense Federal University (UFF) and Petrobras celebrated last Friday, June 6th, the beginning of the second phase of the Cooperation Agreement for the Optimization of HPC costs in the cloud. The workshop, held at Cenpes, marked the transition to a new stage of research and development in High-Performance Computing (HPC).
Under the leadership of Professor Lucia Drummond, our team of researchers from UFF was fundamental in the first phase of the project. Over two years, our work in developing SIM@Cloud helped to prove that the use of a hybrid cloud for HPC is a technical and economic reality for complex challenges such as reservoir simulation, generating cutting-edge knowledge and scientific publications.

It is a privilege for UFF to collaborate with the high-level team from Petrobras, including Felipe Portella, Maicon Moro, Paulo Fernando Ramos Pereira, and Paulo Estrela, and with technological partners such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft, and Spassu. For this new phase, we welcome CESAR, which joins this innovation ecosystem.
We remain committed to generating impactful science, developing talent, strengthening national industry, and contributing to Brazil’s technological development. The UFF-Petrobras partnership is proof of the power of collaboration between academia and the market to solve great challenges.
